Tranquility at the gates of Lisbon in the area of. Santa Iria de Azóia, which was part of the municipality of Alverca until its extinction in 1855, having then passed to Vila Franca de Xira. In 1886, with the creation of the municipality of Loures, it was integrated into it, a fact that caused numerous territorial disputes between Loures and Vila Franca. On July 28, 1896, the neighboring parish of São João da Talha (which then integrated the current Bobadela) was annexed to it, which would only become autonomous again on March 1, 1939, through Decree-Law No. 29648. [7] In addition, it also included, until 13 April 1916, the territory of the current Póvoa de Santa Iria, which at that time was also autonomous as an independent parish. [8] Until this date it was a very extensive parish, with about 20 km². The disputes over the territory ceased only on November 8, 1926, when the government of the military dictatorship decided to maintain Santa Iria in the municipality of Loures, and the transfer of Póvoa de Santa Iria to Vila Franca, through decree no. 12614. [9]
Santa Iria de Azóia was elevated to town on February 1, 1988, through law no. 22/88, of February 1. [10].
