The aqueduct, originating in Pintéus, supplied water to the Mitra Estate and Palace, owned by the patriarchate of Lisbon.
The Aqueduct fed two fountains: the public fountain, at the top of the village, next to the road to São Julião do Tojal, and the monumental fountain, arranged at the top of a staircase of Italian taste, consisting of the sink, tank and spouts.
